Consumer Protection...
Protect Your Collection And Investment.
AC&C's Rare Coin Consumer Protection Quick Guide was created in 1991 to help collectors and investors protect themselves. We highly recommend following the general guidelines provided...

  • Dealer promises or "guarantees" incredible short term profits.

  • Dealer claims to be an expert but lacks clear product knowledge.

  • High pressure sales tactics.

  • Dealer de-emphasizes or denies there is risk involved.

  • Dealer refuses to give you full disclosure of your transaction.

  • Dealer wants to "hold" you coins for you.

  • Firm uses official or government sounding name.

  • TV, magazine or newspaper ads that do not state the grade of coins offered.

  • Company refuses to name officers and owners, or give specific information.

  • General nervousness about your inquiries.

  • If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't true.

  • Are they an NGC or PCGS authorized dealer?

  • What is their return policy?

  • How long have they been in business and at the same location?

  • Check their record with State Authorities.

  • Check their record with Federal Authorities.

  • Are they members of recognized Trade Organizations?

  • Buy only U.S. Coins for Numismatic Investment.

  • Buy only PCGS or NGC certified coins.

  • Check the pricing guides.

  • Check the population figures.

  • Beware of Modern Coins as an investment vehicle.

  • Review all written material before you buy.

  • Make sure you get exactly what you ordered.

  • Find out how and when coins will be delivered.

  • Find out the dealers buyback policy.

  • Check all paperwork for detailed descriptions.

  • Check all paperwork for hidden charges.

  • Ask what kind of extra services dealers provide.
